Thorin Thistlebottom had everything an elf could want: a little house in the roots of an oak tree, a soft little bed, even a set of dishes made from acorn caps. But more than anything, Thorin loved his fancy waistcoat, with buttons in every colour of the rainbow.
There were once four sisters who got along very well – until Winter decided she wasn’t going to let Spring have her turn. Poor Spring! She tried to wake the sleeping bears, but when they peeked out and felt the icy wind – when they saw how much snow still covered the ground – they just shivered, and went back to sleep.
The two children felt themselves being transformed. Instead of clothes, they had blubber and fur. Instead of hands and feet, they had flippers. Their ears got smaller, their eyes got bigger, and whiskers sprouted on either side of their new, flat noses.
“Everything you draw with this pencil will come to life – but only until the sun goes down,” the old woman told Princess Gillian. “When the sun sets, everything you’ve drawn will turn to dust.”
There was once a little stone house in a hollow in the woods. Oh, but it was a lovely little house, snug and warm and dry! But no one even knew the house was there – except the wind, and the birds and the mice.
“Hello, little bird,” said the prince. The little brown bird tilted its head, as if it to say hello in return. And then it began to sing.
Princess Poppy was a very spoiled princess. But she met her match when a pig crossed her path!
Catrina’s stockings don’t match, she talks to the birds as much as she talks to her neighbours, and sometimes late at night she sings to the stars. But don’t be fooled – old Catrina is very, very clever!
